Divorce parties are quickly becoming the “new black.” Not only are women celebrating the joy of new love with engagement parties and receptions, but they are now celebrating the end of the relationship by throwing themselves a party. After all, it’s no longer about the ex-husband, right? It’s about a woman celebrating her independence and who wouldn’t want to toast to being independent?

In this “hip” stage play, Yolanda (Dawnn Lewis) is a successful businesswoman who has everything a woman her age could want. She has a great career, wonderful friends, a supportive sister and new eye-candy on her arm. One thing she’s decided not to do is let her recent divorce ruin the rest of her life. So, she throws herself a divorce party and invites all the women in her life to celebrate her independence from her ex-husband.
The Divorce does a great job of addressing pressing issues in today’s society. Infidelity, family, illness, death, new relationships, careers and sisterhood are all a part of the plot, and it’s interesting how the story unfolds.
I won’t give too much away, but...
My advice: grab all of your close girlfriends, order your favorite foods, stock up on the most delicious snacks and leave the men at home. The Divorce is the perfect movie to watch during a ladies’ night in.
