Tamika Maria Price, wardrobe stylist and personal shopper for A-Line Style Services (www.alinechicago.com), established her styling company in 2008. After experiencing homelessness as a child, the Chicago native vowed to give back to the community. In 2009, she created the charity fashion show as a way to not only showcase local businesses, but to give a platform to young, homeless women. For her show, Price chooses one who is leaving a transitional housing facility, gives her a makeover and an opportunity to rip the runway for the finale of the show. Proceeds from the show benefit A-Line Foundation (www.alinefoundation.org), a 501c3 organization that provides workshops and makeovers for mothers who are in transitional housing facilities and homeless shelters.
At the show, models rocked fashions and showcased pieces from local designers. This year’s fashion lines included Guage, Eddy and Bri, Raven Rashae, Chocolate Sushi Couture, Kham’ryn B., Love Verse and Chicago Fashion Incubator designer lines Modahnik and Shavonne Dorsey. The other half of the show was a women’s expo that featured booths of local vendors. Authors, accessory designers, boutiques, caterers and others displayed their businesses for guests to shop. Attendees mixed and mingled as they tasted savory bites from Nticing Ngredients and Trice’s Treats and sipped on drinks courtesy of Belvedere and Hennessy.
